Although Shiryu is unwilling to cut his hair, the amount of time he puts into it when he goes to wash it, dry it and detangle it tends to make him contemplate cutting it. He is proud of his hair and the reason behind it, but all the work and effort that goes into taking care of it becomes a hassle. Twenty minutes of his shower time is DEDICATED just to his hair when he washes it in the shower. He scrubs it with an all natural shampoo and conditioner it twice. He has to take his hands from root to tip in sections because his hair is not only plentiful, but also thick (when wet it becomes heavy; like he has a weight on his head). When that’s done (and so is his shower routine), he proceeds to towel dry it until it is DAMP, NOT COMPLETELY DRY. After which he uses a hair pick in order to go through, section by aggravation section in order to detangle all of it. He holds it by the end and, as gently as he can, go through it until he is able to pass the pick through his hair from root to tip with very little snagging. Sometimes, he’ll even put a bit of oil in his hair once he’s done combing through it all.
Shiryu will wash his hair at night and thus, he won’t go to bed with it still damp. He’ll wait it for it to completely cry before going to bed but, since his hair is so thick, the process to wait for his hair to air dry is long. Shiryu is an early riser (he’s up first out of all 5 of the bronze saints–beating Ikki by an hour) so he tends to go to bed at a decent time. So, showering at, say, 9, will ruin his sleep schedule since he refuses to go to bed with his hair still wet. The headache that comes with detangling it in the morning if he does go to bed with it still went is NOT worth it. He’s a stickler for keeping to his schedule(its his comfort zone as well as his vice) so any sort of hiccup will affect how he approaches the rest of the day. The more hiccups, the fouler he will be. So, having to deal with his hair in the morning because he didn’t allow it to dry at night is a big no no.
